Committed to the principle that an informed Mason is a better Mason, the Illinois Lodge of Research encourages members to study subjects connected with the Craft and offers opportunities to share research with other lodge members and our brethren in general.

Illinois Lodge of Research’S Annual Meeting

The Illinois Lodge of Research holds its Annual Meeting on the first Friday every October, after the first Grand Lodge session. The meeting is at approximately 3pm in a meeting room of the hotel across from the Grand Lodge meeting hall. The format of the Annual Meeting is as follows:

  • Welcoming of members and non-members
  • Opening (pretty much like any other Lodge, but without the floorwork, signs, etc.)
  • Transaction of needed business (usually pretty minimal)
  • Election of lodge officers
  • Installation of lodge officers
  • Presentation or program by a special speaker
  • Closing (again, pretty standard, but without the floorwork, signs, etc.)

Can non-members attend the Annual Meeting?
Certainly! We welcome all Master Masons to our meetings and events, even if you are not a member of the Illinois Lodge of Research.

Can I join the Lodge of Research at the Annual Meeting?
Yep! We will have petitions/applications available at the meeting, and you may also bring one that you have downloaded and completed to the meeting. Dues are $10 per year, $19 for two years, or $200 for lifetime dues.

Do you wear aprons, jewels, sit in lodge seats, etc.
No, our annual meeting is informal though we do ask for a level of decorum and respect. The meetings tend to be pretty quick so that we can all experience the special speaker or presenter.

“The secret of it all is to write in the gush, the throb, the flood, of the moment — to put things down without deliberation — without worrying about their style — without waiting for a fit time or place. By writing at the instant, the very heartbeat of life is caught.”

— Walt Whitman
